- Eyes of Wakanda will delve into Wakandan lore and potentially elevate Ulysses Klaue as a more menacing villain with his impressive theft of vibranium and ability to evade capture for over 20 years.
- The series will cover different eras in Wakanda's history, but it remains uncertain if it will address the period between Klaue's theft and his appearance in Black Panther.
- By showcasing the prowess of Wakanda's warriors, Eyes of Wakanda indirectly highlights the sinister formidability of Klaue, emphasizing his evasive skills and danger as a criminal.
The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series Eyes of Wakanda will further explore the Wakandan lore introduced in
Black Panther and potentially make one of the film’s villains seem far more impressive. Ulysses Klaue made his MCU debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, establishing him as a ruthless black market arms dealer and setting up the eventual appearance of Wakanda and Black Panther lore in the MCU timeline through Klaue’s backstory. Considering the premise of Eyes of Wakanda, the somewhat underrated Klaue may become a far more menacing and impressive villain in hindsight.
According to the brief synopsis of Eyes of Wakanda, the series will be set throughout the nation’s long history and involve Wakandan warriors traveling the world to retrieve vibranium artifacts. In addition to deepening the lore surrounding the MCU’s Black Panther movies, Eyes of Wakanda could also explain the lore of other films in the franchise, perhaps providing a reason how Howard Stark acquired vibranium for Captain America’s shield and why he was allowed to keep it. The premise can also make a key portion of Ulysses Klaue’s backstory far more astonishing and thus elevate his threat level in the MCU.

As explained in Age of Ultron and 2018’s Black Panther,
Ulysses Klaue was tasked by Prince N’Jobu with stealing Wakanda’s coveted vibranium, a task no one had achieved before. Klaue was partially successful, managing to steal a quarter ton of the powerful material, kill numerous Wakandan people with an explosive, and escape Wakandan captivity. More impressive than even his successful theft of vibranium, however, was Klaue successfully evading being recaptured for over 20 years, as his theft took place in 1992.
While the premise of Eyes of Wakanda implies that the series will take place in a variety of eras, it is unclear for now if it will cover points in Wakanda’s history between Klaue’s theft and final appearance in Black Panther.
The series could show Wakandan agents pursuing Klaue, which would directly show how dangerous and resourceful the criminal is. At least,
by showing the prowess of Wakanda’s warriors, Eyes of Wakanda would indirectly demonstrate Klaue’s sinister formidability, considering that he evaded them for decades.

Ulysses Klaue is only a minor villain in Age of Ultron and
Black Panther, but his comic counterpart is one of T’Challa’s A-list villains and certainly one of his most dangerous adversaries. Klaue’s reduced roles in his MCU film appearances are, for now, bolstered by a fascinating backstory that the franchise has yet to fully explore. Whether Eyes of Wakanda directly addresses Ulysses Klaue’s theft and evasion of Wakandan agents or simply implies that his feats are more impressive than they seem, the series is sure to retroactively increase his threat level as an MCU villain.
